Awareness Month. If you’ve ever loved someone who has been affected by this disease, you know why this month matters so deeply.

With more than 6 million Americans currently living with Alzheimer’s, chances are it has touched someone in your circle too.

Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, making up 60 to 80 percent of all cases. It’s a progressive brain disorder that gradually affects memory, reasoning, and the ability to handle everyday tasks. And while it’s more common as we age, it’s important to know that it is not a normal part of aging.

Some early signs to look out for include persistent memory loss, trouble problem-solving,  confusion about time or place, and changes in mood or personality. The sooner these signs are  recognized, the more options are available for care and planning.

This month is a great time to get involved in whatever way feels right for you. Donate to the  Alzheimer’s Association, join a local Walk to End Alzheimer’s, or simply check in on someone you  know who is caregiving. That kind of community support, the quiet, consistent kind, makes a real  difference in people’s lives.

Awareness starts with conversation. So, share what you know, show up for the people around you,  and wear your purple with pride this June.
