December 8, 2011 – Atlanta, Ga. – At least one person was injured as a result of a multi-vehicle car accident that happened in the morning on Wednesday, December 7.
CBS Atlanta reports that the accident happened just after 2 a.m. on the downtown connector. Officials with the Georgia Department of Transportation said that a flat-bed tractor-trailer and 2 other vehicles collided in the southbound lanes of the downtown connector. Further details of how the accident occurred are not yet available.
At least one person had to be transported to a local hospital following the accident. Exactly how many people were injured is unclear. Officials said that it appears that there were no serious injuries.
The accident caused 5 of the southbound lanes to be blocked to traffic while crews worked to clear the scene. All lanes were reopened an hour later after the incident.
The accident is under ongoing investigation by local police.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
