February 22, 2012 – Gainsville, Ga. – An 8-year-old girl was killed and at least 2 more people were injured in a car crash on Monday, February 20.

My Fox Atlanta
states that the incident occurred at the intersection of Queen City Parkway and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. Officials said that a minivan and a Nissan Altima collided in the intersection. Further details of how the accident occurred aren’t yet available.

A woman, her 8-year-old daughter and her young son, who were in the minivan, were all injured in the accident. The boy was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with critical injuries. The woman was transported to Northeast General Hospital in unknown condition.

The 8-year-old girl was also taken to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The girl’s father, the driver of the minivan, seems to have remained uninjured.

The condition of the Altima’s driver is unknown at this time. The cause of the accident remains to be determined. Local authorities are investigating.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
