October 18, 2011 - DeKalb County, Ga. - Two people, including a 4-year-old girl, were seriously injured in an accident that also left 2 people dead on Sunday, October 16.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
reports that the accident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Buford Highway. According to police, a Chevrolet Corvette was travelling on the roadway when its driver lost control of the vehicle. The Corvette then went into the opposite lanes of traffic, where it crashed into an Acura head on.

Both occupants of the Corvette were killed in the accident. The driver, 23-year-old Raul Velazquez, and his passenger, Abraham Velazquez, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene. The 2 men were brothers.

The Acura's driver, 44-year-old Denise Hudson, of Williamson, and her 4-year-old daughter were critically injured in the accident. Hudson was transported to Atlanta Medical Center while her daughter was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite.

The accident remains under investigation by local authorities.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
