August 18, 2011 - Clayton County, Ga. - A person was killed Wednesday, August 17, in an accident involving a motorcycle in Clayton County.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on the accident that happened shortly before 7 a.m. on Interstate 75. The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the interstate and involved a motorcycle and another car.
Officials from the State Department of Transportation said that the motorcyclist was pinned underneath another vehicle. The accident led to the motorcyclist death and he or she was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries or fatalities have been reported in connection with this accident. The identities of the victims in this accident have not been revealed.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 75 were closed to traffic for part of the morning. The northbound lanes of Interstate 75 were also backed up in the area of the accident. Emergency response teams and fatality investigators were on the scene. The accident is still under investigation.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
