February 8, 2012 – DeKalb County, Ga. – Few details have been released in an accident that left a person dead on Monday, February 6.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
reports that the accident happened shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Covington Highway, near Wesley Chapel Road. Officials said that 2 vehicles collided on the roadway. Precise details of how the collision occurred are not available at this time.

A person was fatally wounded in the crash. That person died on the scene. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

The identity of the other driver involved in the accident is also unknown. Whether or not that other driver was injured in the crash is unclear.

DeKalb Police Lt. Antonio Catlin said that investigators have not yet determined who was at fault in the accident. No charges had been filed as of Monday afternoon.

Covington Highwaywas blocked to traffic in both directions for some time after the accident while officials worked to investigate and clear the scene.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
