February 14, 2012 – Pickens County, Ga. – A man was killed, and a woman and her daughter were injured in a head-on accident on Friday, February 10.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
reports that the accident happened at about 4:30 p.m. on GA 108 at Old Waleska Highway. Officials said that a Chevrolet Lumina, driven by Juan Cutierrez-Munoz, 51, crossed over the center line in an attempt to pass a stopped vehicle. The Lumina then collided head on with an oncoming Chevrolet Traverse.

Cutierrez-Munoz was killed in the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Traverse’s driver, Donna Westbrook, and her 15-year-old daughter were injured in the crash. Westbrook was flown to Atlanta Medical Center to be treated for a leg injury. Her daughter suffered minor injuries and was transported to Piedmont Mountainside Hospital for medical treatment.

There has been no word on whether or not charges will be filed in connection with this crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
