December 7, 2011 – Douglas County, Ga. – A high school student was struck and killed when she got off of a school bus on Tuesday, December 6.

My Fox Atlanta
reports that the incident occurred late Tuesday evening on Cedar Mountain Road. According to police on the scene, Brandy Hart, 17, had just been dropped off by the school bus when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Hart was rushed toWellstar Douglas Hospital immediately following the accident. She was later pronounced dead in the hospital.

The driver that hit Hart stopped her vehicle 100 yards from the scene. Police interviewed the driver that night. The identity of the driver has not been released.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the accident but charges are currently pending.

Officials said that the school bus had come to a complete stop and had activated its lights.

AustinPolice are still investigating the accident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
