February 21, 2012 – Union City, Ga. – An Atlanta woman suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a vehicle in a hit and run accident early in the morning on Sunday, February 19.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
reports that the accident happened at about 3 a.m. on South Fulton Parkway, close to Mason Road. Based on reports from the Union City Police, Latara Worthy, 29, was struck by a car about 5 minutes away from her home. Relatives said that she had just gotten out of her car when she was struck. The driver that hit Worthy fled the site.

Worthy was killed in the accident and died at the scene.

Police are still searching for the driver of the car that hit worthy. The accident is under ongoing investigation.

Worthy was a teacher at Woodland Middle School in East Point and the mother of a 1-year-old child.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
