November 8, 2011 - Cherokee County, Ga. - A man was killed and 2 more were injured in an accident involving a tractor-trailer and a car on Friday, November 4.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
reports that the accident happened Friday afternoon on Ga. 20 near Canton. Officials said that it appears that a 4-door Saturn was trying to make a U-turn on the roadway when it pulled into the path of a tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer crashed into the Saturn, knocking the Saturn off the roadway.

A backseat passenger, Barry Allen Freeman, 23, of Adairsville, died on the scene.

The Saturn's driver, RicHard Bagley, 29, of Cartersville, and the front-seat passenger, Matthew Wilcox, 37, of Cartersville, were both seriously injured in the accident. Bagley had to be airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital. Wilcox was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital.

The tractor-trailer's driver, Brian Moore, 33, of Jackson, didn't receive any injuries in the accident. Officials said that he won't be charged in this accident.

The accident is continues to be investigated.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
