January 5, 2012 – Atlanta, Ga. – A fatal car accident in downtown claimed the life of a Georgia man on Sunday, January 1.

Reports from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution state that Terrell George, 28, was driving northbound on Marietta Boulevard when his car veered off the road, near West Marietta Street. The vehicle traveled down an embankment before striking a tree.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on New Year’s Day and police are investigating what may have caused George to lose control. According to investigators, he wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was found dead at the scene. No word on whether or not alcohol or speeding were factors in the crash.

Determining the cause of single-car accidents can be a difficult task when you need this evidence for a personal injury or wrongful death claim. Police reports, crash investigations, and witness statements may be difficult to obtain alone, but a Georgia accident attorney may be able to make the process easier.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
