March 16, 2012 – Covington, Ga. – A report from 11Alive.com stated that Georgia State Patrol is working on identifying the driver who fled the scene of an accident that killed William Clark Hildreth, 44, early Tuesday morning, March 13.

The accident occurred on the eastbound lanes of I-20 near Almon Road. Hildreth was driving his Chevrolet Impala when he lost control and hit the median wall. As he exited his vehicle police believe he was struck by a red or burgundy Ford Explorer or similar SUV that continued to drive away.

Hildreth’s vehicle was also struck by a Chevrolet Malibu which caused minor injuries to his 2 passengers. Hildreth was pronounced dead at the scene and his passengers were transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

This type of accident can be extremely difficult to pursue a wrongful death claim due to the lack of negligent driver to find at fault for your damages.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
