April 24, 2012 – Atlanta, Ga. – The body of a hit and run victim was found on the side of the road on Saturday, April 21.

Fox 5 News
reports that the body was found early in the morning alongside Interstate 75 northbound near Glade Road. A sheriff’s deputy in the area was the first to discover the body. The deputy had stopped to check on a car that had been parked on the side of the interstate when he saw the body.

Based on the victim’s mangled condition, officials think that the victim was first struck by a large vehicle, and then run over several more times by passing vehicles. The victim has not yet been identified.

Officials with the Georgia State Patrol are still looking for the vehicle that struck the victim. Investigations are ongoing by local authorities.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
