June 30, 2011 - Rex, Ga. - According to a report at the Atlanta Journal Constitution, A 28-year-old woman, from Clayton County, is facing serious criminal charges after she crashed her car with her 2 young kids inside while driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police say the driver was grossly intoxicated last Tuesday when she crashed her Camaro in a park near the Mill mobile home community in Rex. The woman apparently crashed into several picnic tables before fleeing the scene by driving through a fence. She then attempted to drive the wrong direction down Georgia 42 before returning to the mobile home park, where she once again crashed her car, this time into a building on the property.
Witnesses found her slumped over in her vehicle with her 2 children, ages 4 and 6, in the backseat. Police determined that her blood-alcohol level was .392, which is well above the legal limit of 0.08. Authorities haven't said if the driver or her children suffered personal injuries.
The woman is now facing multiple charges, including drunk driving, reckless driving, child endangerment, and others.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
