The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the incident occurred late evening when the victim, Vanicie Gamble, 18, was walking along Macon Drive. Gamble was with her boyfriend, Aaron Ramey, and pushing their infant son in a stroller when she fell into the roadway.
According to Atlanta police, Ramey was waving his hands to alert traffic on Macon but a 1996 Chevrolet van struck Gamble after trying to avoid her by veering to the left. The driver of the van, Fred Martin, is related to Gamble and his passenger was Gamble’s mother.
Gamble was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where she later died from her injuries. Investigators believe she may have fallen into the road after tripping on the stroller. Gamble’s infant son wasn’t harmed in the incident and no charges have been filed.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
