September 13, 2011 - Clayton County, Ga. - A police officer was Monday morning after the officer's car crashed into a tractor trailer on Monday, September 12.

reports that the accident happened at the intersection of Tara Boulevard and Mundy's Mill Road. According to Georgia State Patrol officials, it appears that the officer's vehicle crashed into the rear of the tractor trailer.

Reports indicate that the Clayton County police officer was injured in the accident but officials said that the officer's injuries were not serious or life-threatening.

The driver of the tractor trailer was reported not injured in the accident.

The identities of the injured officer and the driver of the tractor trailer have not yet been released.

The northbound lanes of Tara Boulevard were blocked to traffic for some time following the accident as investigators and emergency response crews worked at the scene.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
