December 5, 2011 – DeKalb County, Ga. – Police are searching for the driver responsible for a fatal hit and run accident that happened on Wednesday, November 30.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
reports that the accident happened Wednesday night on Moreland Avenue, near Interstate 285. The pedestrian, Erron Butler, 53, of Jonesboro, was walking across the street when he was struck by a white Chrysler Sebring.

Butler suffered fatal injuries on site, while the driver fled the scene of the accident. Atlanta police officers found the Sebring nearJonesboro Road and Bisbee Avenue, but were unable to locate the driver.

While police are still searching for the suspect, the accident is under ongoing investigation. Based on police reports, the victim was not walking in a crosswalk when the accident occurred.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
