Fox 5 News reports that the accident happened early Wednesday morning on Post Road. Officials with the Georgia State Patrol said that a black Volkswagen Jetta was driving southbound on the roadway when it crossed into the northbound lane as it went around a turn. It then crashed into a northbound BMW head on.
Both people in the BMW were killed in the accident. The driver, Zachary Crenshaw, 20, and his passenger, Matthew Ryan Miller, 20, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jetta’s driver, Michael Cory Camp, 21, was rushed to Atlanta Medical Center immediately following the accident. He was taken to the Intensive Care Unit.
Police said that Camp wouldn’t take a blood-alcohol test at the scene. But Trooper Richard Pack said that Camp was acting drunk and had an odor of alcohol on him.
Camp is being charged with 2 counts of vehicular homicide. Depending on the results of further tests by the GBI, Georgia State Troopers may file additional charges.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
