December 20, 2011 – Atlanta, Ga. – An elementary school student and a school bus driver were transported to the hospital after an SUV hit a school bus on Monday, December 19.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the incident occurred Monday morning near the intersection of Habershal Drive and Perry Boulevard in northwest Atlanta. The bus was en route to Boyd Elementary School when the SUV crashed into the rear of the bus.
There were 3 students on the school bus when the accident occurred. The bus’s driver and one of the students were sent to a nearby hospital after being evaluated by paramedics on the scene. Officials said that both victims required further evaluation.
There has been no information released as to whether or not the driver of the SUV will be charged in connection with this accident. The names of those involved in the crash have not been publically revealed yet.
The accident is under the stages of investigation.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
