The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the accident happened at about 1:30 a.m. on Interstate 75. Officials said that Michael York, 32, was driving northbound in his yellow 2001 Ford Mustang when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to go off of the roadway and onto the median. The Mustang then went down an embankment before crashing into a tree.
York sustained fatal wounds in the accident. His passenger, Hysie Allen, 36, also suffered injuries. Allen was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. Police said that the victim’s injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident. No further injuries have been reported.
Officials with the Cobb County Police Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Unit are investigating the case.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
