March 29, 2012 – Fulton County, Ga. – A Sandtown Middle School teacher is dead and 2 others injured following a fatal car crash on Camp Creek Parkway.

CBS Atlanta 46
reports that the wreck occurred shortly after school let out on Sunday, March 19, when 2 teachers, Shireen Haynes and Kay Price, left Sandtown in a car driven by Price’s husband. As they were driving, another vehicle driven by a teen slammed into their car, sending it spinning out of control and into the path of an oncoming 18-wheel tractor-trailer.

The impacts killed Haynes, while the Prices’ suffered injuries and were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. Fulton County police were called to investigate and have charged the teen driver with 2nd degree vehicular homicide. Additional charges were filed against the teen’s mother, Syreeta Collins, who’s being held liable for reckless conduct in allowing her child to drive without an adult in the vehicle.

The teen driver faces other charges related to her driving conduct including failure to maintain a lane, driving with a restricted license, and suspended registration. Her license status is designated as being restricted to only driving when there’s an adult present in the vehicle. The teen was apparently following Collins’ vehicle when the crash occurred.
