April 30, 2012 – Gwinnett County, Ga. – A teenage girl was killed and 3 more teens were injured when they were involved in a car crash on the way to an after-prom party early on Sunday, April 29.

According to a news reports posted on 11Alive, the accident happened on Steve Reynolds Boulevard. The teens were driving to the after-prom party when another vehicle crossed over the center line and crashed into their car head on. Reports indicate that 2 of the teens were thrown from the car on impact.

Johlanda Lindsey, 16, was killed in the accident. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were 3 other teens that sustained injuries. One of them is said to be in critical condition.

The driver at fault is a teammate of Lindsey’s; the 2 students ran track at Meadowcreek High School. The young man has been charged with reckless driving and first-degree vehicular homicide. Charges are pending.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
