November 9, 2011 - Fulton County, Ga. - A teenager was killed and several other people, including children, were injured when 2 vehicles collided on Saturday, November 5.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
reports that the accident happened at about 1 p.m. at the intersection of Flat Shoals Road and Harper Valley Drive. A van was travelling on the roadway when, for reasons unknown, it swerved into the opposite lane of traffic. The van then crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

A passenger in the van, Joshua Jenkins, 16, was killed in the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The van's driver, Jenkins' mother, was injured and had to be taken to a local hospital. Her condition is unknown. The male driver of the second car was critically injured too and was sent to a hospital.

Also injured in the accident were 5 children. Out of the 5, 4 had been treated and released from the hospital while a 3-year-old child remains in critical condition.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
