November 4, 2011 - Marietta, Ga. - A teenage boy was hospitalized after he was struck by a car on Thursday morning, November 3.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the accident happened at about 7:20 a.m. on South Marietta Parkway close to Franklin Road. The boy, 15, was attempting to walk across the parkway when an oncoming 2008 Range Rover crashed into him.
The teenager was injured and had to be transported to Kennestone Hospital immediately following the accident. Officials said that the boy was listed in critical condition and went straight to surgery when he arrived at the hospital.
The driver of the Range Rover, 41-year-old Erika Chebuhar, was reported to not have sustained any injuries in the accident.
According to witnesses on the scene, Chebuhar had the right of way at the intersection. So far no charges have been filed in connection with this accident. The accident is remains under the stages of investigation by local authorities.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
