March 6, 2012 – Cherokee County, Ga. – A 3-vehicle accident left a woman dead and several people, including 3 children, injured on Thursday, March 1.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
states that the incident happened at about 3 p.m. on Marietta Highway, near exit 14 on Interstate 575, when 3 vehicles collided on the highway. Additional details of how the crash occurred are not yet accessible.

A woman, Amy Finn Watkins, 31, was fatally wounded in the accident. She was pronounced dead on site.

The occupant of a second vehicle, a 68-year-old man, whose identity has not been revealed, suffered head injuries in the accident. He was sent to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta for treatment. The severity of his injuries is unknown, but officials said that he was conscious and alert when he was transported to the hospital.

An additional 2 adults and 3 children in the third vehicle were also injured in the accident. Officials said that their injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The crash is under stages of investigation by local police.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
