May 30, 2012 - Cobb County, Ga. - A teenager was killed and 2 people were injured in a fatal car accident that occurred on Monday, May 28.

Fox 5 News reports that the accident happened at the intersection of Piedmont Road and Bells Ferry. Officials said that the driver of a Mazda Miata attempted to make a U-turn at the intersection. The Miata was then struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The Miata’s passenger, Laquan Hilton, 17, was killed in the car accident. The victim was declared dead at the scene.

Both of the drivers involved in the accident were injured and had to be taken to a local hospital. The conditions of the injured people are unknown, but officials expect both of them to survive.

The identities of the drivers have not yet been released to the public. The crash is under ongoing investigation by local authorities who were called to the scene.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2010 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,244 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
