August 12, 2011 - Atlanta, Ga. - A child was killed and another was injured Thursday, August 11, when they were run over by an ice cream truck.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
reports that the accident happened in the 700 block of Eloise Court, in southeast Atlanta. According to police and witnesses on the scene, 2 boys were hanging onto the ice cream truck as it began to pull away. The driver of the truck yelled for everyone to get off the back and began to drive off.

The boys jumped off the moving vehicle. Authorities said that both boys were then run over by the ice cream truck.

One of the boys, 10, was killed in the accident. The second boy, 7, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for leg injuries.

The identity of the truck driver has not yet been released. No charges had been filed as of Thursday night. The accident is under ongoing investigation.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
