August 26, 2011 - Clayton County, W.Va. - Two people died and one more are in the hospital after all 3 were hit by a car Thursday afternoon, August 25.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the accident occurred on Ga. 138 near Interstate 675. The 3 male pedestrians, who appeared to be teenagers, were walking along the emergency lane on the roadway when an eastbound car crashed into them.
One of the pedestrians was pronounced dead at the site of the scene. The other 2 had to be airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital. There, another one of the victim's died. The condition of the third victim remains unknown. The identities of the victims in the accident have not yet been revealed.
The driver of the vehicle was reported free of injury in the crash and had stopped after hitting the 3 pedestrians.
So far no charges have been filed against anyone for this accident. The cause of the accident remains to be determined. Investigations are ongoing.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
