November 18, 2011 - Gwinnett County, Ga. - A 3-vehicle car crash in an intersection resulted in 2 fatalities on Thursday, November 17.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
reports that the accident occurred early in the afternoon at the intersection of Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Riverside Parkway. A white Chevrolet van driven by Ryan Edward Morton, 34, ran a red light, which landed him crashing into 2 vehicles in the intersection.

An elderly couple's vehicle was hit on its driver's side. Both people in the vehicle suffered fatal injuries in the accident. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was initially taken to a local hospital, where she died a short time later.

The people that were in the other vehicle involved in the accident were not injured.

Morton was arrested on charges of 2 counts of vehicular homicide and failing to obey a traffic control device. He was taken to Gwinnett County jail.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
