September 27, 2011 - Atlanta, Ga. - A hit and run accident left a man dead on Sunday, September 25.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
reports that the accident occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. on the Downtown Connector, close to the Martin Luther King Drive overpass. Jacob G. Halbrooks, 23-year-old of Covington, was walking along the southbound side of the Connector when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Halbrooks was left with fatal injuries in the accident and he was declared dead at the scene. Officials with the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office said that the official cause of death was blunt force trauma.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Halbrooks had left the scene by the time police arrived. Police are searching for the driver. Initial investigations have lead officials to believe that Halbrooks was struck by a large, heavy truck.
