July 8, 2011 - Atlanta, Ga. - According to a report from Atlanta Journal Constitution, a pedestrian was killed on Wednesday, when he was hit by a car, shortly before 3 p.m., near the Bankhead MARTA station.
Atlanta police say the victim was walking along Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway when he attempted to cross the street near the intersection with Chappell Road. Investigators have not said if he was in a crosswalk at the time, but he was hit by a car driving eastbound on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. The driver of the car wasn't injured and has not been identified by police.
The victim, who has been identified as a 45-year-old man from Atlanta, was taken by ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center with serious personal injuries. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Detectives with the Atlanta Police Department are still investigating this pedestrian accident, but it does not appear that the driver will face any charges.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
