May 2, 2012 – Decatur, Ga. – A bicyclist died in the hospital after he was hit by a pickup truck early on Monday, April 30.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
reports that the accident happened just before 6:30 a.m. on North Decatur Road near Willivee Drive. The bicyclist, Paul Taylor, 53, was in the inside lane of the 4-lane roadway when he was struck by a Ford Ranger pickup truck.

Taylor was rushed to DeKalb Medical Center immediately following the accident. He was later pronounced dead in the hospital.

The pickup driver, whose identity has not been released, was not reported to have sustained any injuries in the crash.

There has been no word on whether or not charges will be filed in connection with this accident.

Taylor worked for the Cobb Futbol Club East, located in DeKalb County, as an assistant soccer coach. Friends and family described Taylor as beloved member of the community; “a devoted family man, soccer coach and athlete.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
