January 13, 2012 – Atlanta, Ga. – A child was taken to the hospital after being hit by a school bus on Thursday, January 12.

My Fox Atlanta
reports that the accident happened at the intersection ofCollier Drive and Fairburn, close to the Harper Archer Middle School. According to school officials, 2 children were playing near the street when they crossed into the path of an oncoming school bus. One of the children was struck and sustained injuries.

The child is said to have suffered suffered pelvic injuries. He was transported to Scottish Rite for medical treatment. Officials said that the child is expected to be OK.

The identity of the school bus driver has not been released. There has been no word on whether or not charges will be filed in connection with this accident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
