The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the accident happened at about 1 p.m. on McGinnis Ferry Road, nearby the Gwinnett-Forsyth county line. A Honda went into the wrong lane of traffic and directly into the path of an oncoming SUV. The 2 vehicles collided head on in the roadway.
Reports indicate that 8 people were injured in the accident, including 2 children in the Honda who suffered minor injuries. They were transported to Scottish Rite Hospital. One of the children was able to leave the hospital by Saturday night and the other had to stay overnight. The younger of the 2 children suffered a rash from the straps of the car seat.
The 5 victims in the SUV also suffered minor injuries. The SUV’s driver sustained multiple fractures.
The driver of the Honda was arrested and charged with failure to maintain lane and 2 counts of failing to accurately restrain a child.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2010 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,244 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
