The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the incident happened on Cobb Parkway, nearby Dallas Acworth Highway. Cobb Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said that a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was travelling in the wrong direction in the northbound lanes of the roadway. It then crashed head on with 2009 BMW 335i.
The Chevrolet’s driver, 41-year-old Brandon R. Meadors, of Cartersville, was critically injured and had to be rushed to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta. Meadors died in the hospital a short time later.
The BMW’s driver, 24-year-old Michael L. Wilson, of Acworth, suffered what has been considered non life-threatening injuries in the crash. Wilson was also transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital to be medically treatment.
Investigations are ongoing by local authorities.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
