July 13, 2011 - Atlanta, Ga. - According to a report at WSB Atlanta, a driver who crashed into a car and then fled the scene was apprehended Friday night, after he was hit by another car while fleeing on foot.

Police say the suspect, a 20-year-old man from Atlanta, crashed into a vehicle in the southbound lanes of Interstate 85. The suspect drove off after the accident without stopping; however, his car sustained a great deal of damage and it broke down on the freeway several miles away.

The suspect abandoned his vehicle on the freeway and attempted to cross Interstate 85 when he was hit by another car. He suffered personal injuries in the second accident and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The suspect is now facing multiple charges, including fleeing the scene of an accident.

The occupants of the car that was hit by the suspect weren't injured, and it appears that the driver who hit the suspect also escaped serious injuries. Atlanta police and first responders were forced to close Interstate 85 for hours after the accident as they conducted their investigation.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
