January 26, 2012 – DeKalb County, Ga. – A man was transported to the hospital in grave condition after he was hit by a car on Tuesday, January 24.

My Fox Atlanta
reports that the accident occurred at the intersection of Wesley Chapel Road and South Hairston Road. Police at the scene said that the man was standing in the middle lane at the time of the accident. A vehicle was attempting to merge into the westbound lanes, from the middle lane, when it struck the man.

The man had to be transported to a local hospital immediately following the accident to receive medical attention. His injuries are said to be critical.

The driver remained on the scene until police arrived. Officials said that the driver may be charged in connection with this accident.

The identities of those involved in the accident have not yet been released. The accident is still under the stages of investigation by local authorities.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
