June 20, 2011 - College Park, Ga. - According to a report at MyFox Atlanta, a pedestrian was killed by a hit-and-run driver, shortly after midnight on Friday, in College Park near the Atlanta airport.
Police say the victim was discovered lying dead in the middle of the road near the intersection of Phoenix Boulevard and West Fayetteville Road. Police say the body was found near a curve in the road where the lighting is poor, which could have contributed to the accident. The car involved in this fatal accident has not been found.
Police say, the victim, identified as a 21-year-old man, was not in a crosswalk at the time of the accident, so the driver was unlikely to have been charged if he or she had remained at the scene.
The car has been identified as an older model Oldsmobile Cutlass, which sustained a large amount of damage from the accident.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
