September 23, 2011 - Sandy Springs, Ga. - A pedestrian was fatally injured after being struck by a car in Sandy Springs on Wednesday, September 21.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
reports that the accident occurred during the afternoon in the 7100 block of Roswell Road. Witnesses on the scene said the pedestrian had just helped someone onto a MARTA bus when he crossed in front of the bus and attempted to walk across the roadway where he was then struck by a northbound vehicle.

The pedestrian, Jalen Stroud, 18, of north Sandy Springs, was killed in the accident and was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle stopped immediately after hitting Stroud and stayed at the scene. The identity of the driver hasn't been released.

Officials said that no charges are expected to be filed in connection with this accident.

Roswell Road was closed from Dalrymple Road to Spalding Drive while investigators worked at the scene.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Georgia Crash Statistics, there were 1,284 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Georgia.
